After more than three years of brainstorming, experimenting and collaborating, DJ Nu-Mark’s debut solo album Broken Sunlight, reveals his influences and innovations into a jaw dropping collection of heart felt music.
“A lot of things in my life were broken, my group broke up, my long term relationship broke up, the music industry and economy seemed to be broken so It was time for me to take a break” Nu-Mark explains. “And that’s where the title of the record stems from. It’s not so much I’m broken. I’m moving towards the sunlight these days. It’s more like a tale of perseverance and forging ahead through difficult times.”
Broken Sunlight also mirrors the marketing behind the album. Instead of releasing all of the songs at once, Nu-Mark plans to release limited edition 10’s as a series leading to the full- length release. “At the end of the cycle, I’m going to release the full album with instrumentals, acappelas, and a documentary style DVD of collaborations in the studio and on the road”
'Don't Play Around' featuring Aloe Blacc & Charles Bradley- Both Aloe and Charles naturally deliver gutsy soulful performances on this unfortunate set of circumstances when your lady cheats on you with your best friend. Aloe's versatility switches from singing his heart out to rhyming laid back while Charles sounds like that 60's funk sample driving the hook home in big ways. Love these guys to death. |
