Mesdames et messieurs – hold tight. TTC are about to rip your brain to pieces. And you’ll like it.
Paris in 2001 is about to witness a sea of change. While rap music is huge in France, it is often thugged out slang strung over r&b pop that wins the day. At last, though, a Parisian Underground is developing. And TTC are at the forefront.
Described as a French Company Flow, TTC’s strange sense of humour, psychedelic beats and vastly contrasting voices make a truer comparison with the likes of Ultramagnetic MCs or the Pharcyde.
Tido Berman, Teki Latex and Cuizinier have been busy making their mark on the downlow for a good few years now. They have appeared on endless mixtapes and the odd compilation and have even self-released the almost legendary 12" "Game Over ‘99". When producer Mr Flash brought a copy of this record to the attention of Big Dada back in the summer of ‘99 we knew we were on to something different.
Now feel the force. ‘Léguman’ is a solo track from Teki Latex, he of the helium voice and astonishing flow. On the next sheet, you will find Teki’s take on the truth and beauty of this superhero’s life. Production comes from Mr Flash, once again proving that he can generate the kitchest, funkiest, frenchest beats. ‘Subway’ features all three TTC MCs and shows their massive contrast in styles and approach. A study of the Parisian metro system, the rappers represent, one at a time, the tracks, the trains and the tunnels.
Here Flash shows a more abstract style, but check what he does to the voices to know you’re dealing with a truly original producer…
All in all it’s a blinder. Enjoy – just don’t fuck with the vegetables. Okay? |
