Following 2011’s soulful ‘Stylin’ Free’ album (HNLP001), Hundred Strong returns under the name ‘101’ with a transcontinental Hip Hop gem featuring Sound Providers microphone master Surreal handling vocal duties and dropping science. Using the tried and tested formula of tough drums, a funky bass line, horns courtesy of ‘The Killer Horns’ that wouldn’t sound out of place backing James Brown and keys by Ev Newman Edenheight/Subversions), The resulting 3.5 minutes is straight up unpretentious Hip Hop at its best with no gimmicks, just funky music and smooth rhymes. No Hip Hop song is complete without some turntable action and this is no exception as fellow High Noon recording artist Mr Fantastic cuts up some classic Hip Hop vocals to construct the chorus to reaffirm the scientific theme of Surreal’s vocal. |
