After Chicago's Twinight label flamed out in late '71, the Notations found themselves cutting on the far west side at Gene Cash's custom Cash Recording studio. A pair of 45s emerged on the Cash and CRA imprints prior to the trio signing with Curtis Mayfield's Gemigo label, and "That Girl" b/w "This Time I'm For Real" were shelved, or rather abandoned. Known to collectors as the Notations "lost" period, the Cash sessions reveal an unknown peak in this legendary vocal harmony group's storied career. |
