BEAT & DISCOVERY present the new generation of French beatmakers. By giving a carte blanche to the producers, BEAT & DISCOVERY is an ambitious series covering du instrumental hip-hop and broken beat. PHOHAT is the first artist to be discover in the BEAT & DISCOVERY series. In the spirit of BBE’s Beat Generation series Just Like Vibes is launching this new series that will focus on new beatmakers. The idea is to show the world some of the unknown talents we have in France. The first 12′’ of Phohat was released in may 2007 with great response in Japan and UK. The first Phoat 12″ defines the artistic vision of the series, “Intelligenti Pauca” meaning “Intelligent people need only a few words to understand". Growing up in Aulnay, Phohat has been surrounded by hip-hop since the late 80’s and has been handling the sampler for more than 15 years. An MC at first, he choose to focus on production at 15, then launch his own label at 21. Happiness for Phohat is to lock himself in his basement, to listen to David Axelrod, Luke Vibert and Jay Dee before turning on his Kurtweil keuyboard and starting new beats. For this album Phohat demonstrate a wide array of talents : ” I hope it will be felt by other people, that’s my challenge. The first few tracks on the album have a Worldbeat feel in the rhythms, then the record grows into a more MC oriented sound. I didn’t want to have a rap sounding album. Each track has different influences. I include some songs that are a few years old. When I began to work on the tracklisting for the album, I went back to my old disks of beats that were made at different periods of my life. Some songs are old but nobody has ever heard them, so I just mix them properly and I kept the best things I ever made.” |
