DJ Zeph has continued to reach successful heights, ever since his critically acclaimed debut on Wide Hive Records in 2001. The momentum has continued with Zeph taking home the honor as "Best DJ/Turntablist" at the SF Weekly Music Awards in 2002. And now sits firmly alongside Little Brother, Wildchild, and GEOLOGY as an Urb Magazine Next 100 artist for 2003. Zeph's latest single offers two new tracks off his yet to be titled sophomore album, due in early 2004 on Wide Hive Records.
Floor Wax is a bouncy-disco-b-boy cut featuring Crown City Rocker Raashan Ahmad on the m.i.c. Raashan takes us on a journey through the dance timeline from breakin' to the running man (c'mon, you know you rocked it) over Zeph's handclapping, booty-shaking, funky ass beat. This feel-good track is aimed for getting you onto the dancefloor, and simply put, "to move y'all!"
Flip over for another dance floor cut, Underscore, which is an uplifting jam that really highlights the beauty of Middle Eastern influence. Featuring beats by DJ iLL Media of Psychokinetics and strings written and arranged by Ben Conrad, Lila Sklar (Violin) and Akire (Cello). This side includes the "main version" and an added "bonus beats" track, making this single a very tasty slice of vinyl.
