Phantom Island‘s first outing in 2018 is a project that dates back to the very beginning of the label. Wavetest is something like Phantom Island’s in-house band, a true family affair. The five-piece combo, originally from Liechtenstein, now based in Zurich, consists of childhood friends Florin Büchel (aka CCO), Michael Büchel (aka Kejeblos), David Sele, Roger Szedalik and Sandro Nardi. All of them already worked on records for the label (f.e. “The Family Mattress”, “Just Me No You”, “Cosmic Inflation”) and Roger Szedalik’s guitar playing can be heard on releases by Lexx, Foster and Fuga Ronto. To finally put an EP out with brand new material by Wavetest was a matter very close to the label’s heart. Moreover it’s almost eight years since their last record (the “For Real” EP on Drumpoet Community) and frequent live gigs in Zurich’s bustling nightlife scene had fueled expectations for this release. “Wrong Planet” is a perfect contribution to Phantom Island’s catalogue. “Hanstraum (Love Mix)” is probably the one track of the threesome that will cause a stirr on the dancefloor, most preferably on one situated on a beach or a cozy rooftoop. “Zappelon” and the title track “Wrong Planet” invite you to zone out, drift away and lose your mind, be it in a club, on an evening run or at home with headphones on. |
