Crown Royale, the group which pairs veteran Michigan emcee Buff1 with World Famous Beat Junkie DJ Rhettmatic, made perfect sense from the start. The brainchild of Jackson Perry and DJ Haircut (Mayer Hawthorne) of Now On, the pairing came to fruition after they were approached by the Now On members, and discovered there was a mutual respect and admiration for each other’s work.

Emcee Buff1 and producer DJ Rhettmatic mixed from far-removed points on the map to put slicing lyrics with pummeling beats in a project so matched point for point it's a wonder they haven't been working together all along. Buff's roots in Southeast Michigan give him the flow and cadence of a man who witnessed greatness in Detroit. Rhettmatic's foundation in Los Angeles gives him the knock and driving boom of a man who witnessed greatness in the C-A.

Rhettmatic offers his standing as a forefather in L.A.'s burgeoning Hip-Hop scene; as part of DJ crew the Beat Junkies, his other group the Visionaries and as a turntablist for upper-echelon artists such as J Dilla, Cypress Hill and Talib Kweli, and for artists all through the halls of Stones Throw records. Recently highlighted as a part of URB’s NEXT 100, Buff1 brings two critically acclaimed full-length LPs to the table, in Pure and There's Only One, and he's stacked up more than a decade of recording, touring and honing show-halting stage skills with seven-man Hip-Hop arsenal Athletic Mic League (AML).

Crown Royale not only makes classic music, but their live show is an experience rather than an event. The energy that has come to be expected from a Buff1 live performance is only further enhanced by the presence of a true turntablist such as Rhettmatic.

This project is where the land of perfect weather and opportunity meets the grit and grind of the Midwest. Whether you’re a drinker or not, Crown Royale is the perfect nightcap, straight up.
