Os Fantasmas is the enigmatic Tropicalia influenced Brazilian psych
band prodcued by Daniel Collás and Sean Marquand (who are better known
Embassy Sound Productions, the duo behind the recent Banda União Black
LP). Fronted by Tim Maia and Banda Black Rio alum Carlos Darci and
the explosive Rio de Janeiro native Magali, Os Fantasmas evokes the
best moments of such vintage Brazilian psych bands as Os Incriveis,
Gal Costa or Os Mutantes.
Side A's, "Uma Gelada", a break-heavy summertime fuzz guitar workout,
bobs and weaves between funk and samba. "Suspiro" on side B is a
blurry love-song that features spaced out vocals and mournful guitar,
kind of like Lo Borges and Arthur Verocai stranded on a deserted moonscape anxiously awaiting a fiery flute and drum break. |
