Since their genesis in 2001, Oakland-based sextet SUBTLE have been home-recording their way to the far side of song. Drawing from a diverse palette of instruments: sampler, synth, guitar, cello, winds, electronic and acoustic drums, and the unmistakable voice and prose of frontman Doseone, the band fashions a self-sampled and live-mic’d musical experience. For SUBTLE, the last twelve months have been nothing short of life changing.... Surviving and recovering from a disastrous tour van accident last February that left band member DAX PEARSON quadriplegic has led the SUBTLE to their most adventurous and clear-hearted achievement.... “For Hero : For Fool” is the follow up to their critically acclaimed 2004 album “A New White” and their 2006 remix collection, “Wishingbone”. Featuring 11 tracks of skewed hip-hop angled poetry-song, epic instrumentation and lyrics of blood and insanity. |
