The work of Chris de Luca and Michael Fakesch, otherwise know as Funkstörung, has been heard by you at one point or another whether you know it or not. Having tackled the remixing duties for a number of artists spanning from Björk to Wu-Tang Clan, Funkstörung turned their focus back to producing for this record. They bring together an impressive cast of guest vocalist including Lou Rhodes of Lamb, Sarah Jay, Lex Record's MC Tes, Rob Sonic and Hamburg Beatboxer Mark Boombastic to flesh out their pristine signature sound.
Until now, most people knew Funkstörung as an instrumental band, but as the title Disconnected insinuates, this album neither treads previously explored grounds or places enphasis too heavily on any particular style of sounds. From electro-pop ballads to next-level hip-hop, you might mistake this record for a compilation of groups from some forward thinking label that has somehow stumbled across some of the best talent in the world as they flew under the radar. Now here it is unleashed on the world, seemingly bragging about the great business decisions it has made by signing these people.
For those of you familiar with their previous work, go in with an open mind. Don't let your preconceptions stop you from sitting back and enjoying a great record that should appeal to a wide audience at some point whether you are into fuzzy electro, cutting-edge hip-hop, electro-pop or would like to hear some of the better examples of singer/songwriters out there. However you look at it, Funkstörung's touch is present, but they allow the guest to set the tone. Consistant quality without a consistant sound. |
