Diamond D's first album ('Stunts, Blunts and Hip-hop') is still a monument of hip-hop. Definitely one of the best albums in all of hip-hop's history - and from this came a whole series of singles that are among the most collectable singles ever in hip-hop. They ain't easy to find, and people hold on to them like musical heirlooms.
'What U Heard' is probably the best of the singles from Diamond - the title track is a good choice for the single, and it also features 'I'm Outta Here (My Name Is John Doe)'. Smooth DITC production graces all and everyone's happy. But what makes this single more essential is the previous unreleased (and unavailable anywhere else) track 'You Can't Front' with Sadat X and Lord Finesse. A lost and hidden gem, this is one of the best tracks to come from the east coast - and it still holds down if you throw it on today. |
