A hot slice of early 80s, post-disco soul produced by Roy Ayers! On "I Know You Care", Ethyl uses a sexy, breathy, Minnie Riperton kind of approach that accents the deep thumping bass, drums and claps, and the scratchy guitar very nicely! Overall the track has a bit poppier of a sound than we'd usually associate with Roy Ayers, but it matches the vocals very sweetly! The flip "It's Your Love", co-written by Ayers and D.D. Bridgewater, has a similar feel, but it's actually a deeper cut with some very moody organ washes and a deeper, darker turn on vocals by Ms. Beatty. Nice, rare soul from an overlooked period in Roy Ayer's production career! |
