Madlib’s back with the second part in the Beat Konducta series, offering 19 new beats on vinyl as “Movie Scenes Vol. 2” adding up to 35 beats for the CD release “Beat Konducta Volumes 1-2: Movie Scenes” which compiles both volumes issued separately on vinyl. The good thing about letting Madlib follow his own vibe by producing just instrumental cuts, is that they can turn out off-beat, have sudden changes of rhythm or do not follow a straight rhythm at all. No emcee need to fit, though it’s well imaginable that some could. The feeling of the second release, i don’t want to say concept here, coz Madlib’s only concept is producing music, stays in the vein of the first volume. Ruff short cuts jam-packed with wicked and weird as well as soulful samples and the wobbling drums to put them in the right groove. I might be somewhat retarded but i prefer bumping this shit in my inexisting jeep than any other Hip-Hop release that I came across lately. There’s not much interesting Hip-Hop music surfacing these days, that can really convince production-wise all the way through. This one’s up close to Dilla’s irresistible beat tape “Donuts” – beat tapes that are indeed way better than other designated albums – and will be accompanying my everyday for months to come. |
